Configure GTM / Tests

Testing phase

If you have changed the way tags fire, it is always best to test them before publishing your container. To verify that they are working properly:

  1. Go to Preview mode.
  2. In the list on the left, click on the "consent_byscuit_updated" event and confirm that the tags are firing under the "Tags fired" section
  3. You can repeat this step for the other Page Views tags with conditional elements.
  4. Once you have confirmed that everything is working and that the tags are firing as expected, you can publish your container with the button in the top right corner of your workspace on GTM.

This part of the test ensures that the cookies are blocked when the user has refused cookies and that they are accumulated when they have accepted them.

  1. Open your workspace on GTM and open a debug page by clicking on the Preview button.
  2. Open your GA4 account. Go to the Admin section (Cogwheel at the bottom left), then in the "Data Display" section, click on "DebugView".
  3. With the previous steps completed, you should already have accepted cookies from the website. You can therefore browse with the debug version of GTM. This should make events appear in the real-time "viewer" of GA4. It may take a while before it can synchronize.
  4. Once you have confirmed that the information is entered correctly, you can go to the bottom of your website in the footer and click on Manage my cookies. Disable all cookies and save your selection.
  5. Browse the website with your cookies disabled. There should be no more new events in the GA4 debug.

If your tests are conclusive, the configuration with Google tools and the Analytics part are now complete.
